~The Silver-Tongued Devil~

I took myself down to the Tally-Ho Tavern
To buy me a bottle of beer
I set myself down by a tender young maiden
Whose eyes were as dark as her hair
And as I was searching from bottle to bottle
For something unfoolish to say
That silver-tongued devil just slipped from the shadows
And smilingly stole her away.

Chorus:
I said, "Hey little girl, don't you know he's the devil!
He's everything that I ain't
Hiding intentions of evil
Under the smile of a saint
All he's good for is getting in trouble
And shifting his share of the blame
And some people swear he's my double
And some even say we're the same"
But the silver-tongued devil's got nothing to lose
And I'll only live 'til I die
We take our own chances and pay our own dues
The silver-tongued devil and I.

Like all the fair maidens
Who've laid down beside him
She knew in her heart that he lied
But nothing that I could have said
Could've saved her
No matter how hard that she tried
'Cause she'll offer her charms
To darkness and danger
Of something that she's never known
And open her arms
At the smile of a stranger
Who'll love her and leave her alone.

Chorus:
And you know he's the devil
He's everything that I ain't
Hiding intentions of evil
Under the smile of  saint
All he's good for is getting in trouble
And shifting his share of the blame
And some people swear he's my double
And some even say we're the same
But the silver-tongued devil's got nothing to lose
And I'll only live 'til I die
We take our own chances and pay our own dues
The silver-tongued devil and I.

Another day almost in the waste-basket...in a few minutes, time to cuddle up with a cold bottle of black ale and a warm greeting from my better half.  And tomorrow, she'll try to dress my Swiss/Spanish body in Irish green, and I'll try to slip into something more suitable if I'm not too sleepy to notice...maybe something more subtle like my orange pull-over.

All-in-all, not a bad day...any day you make it thru' in one piece can't be all bad...but a little more messed up than most.  Still, if it all end's well, as it did, the day's OK.  It could be worse, they always say (I never did know who "they" are, but "they" probably know),  "they"  do always say those things like "they" know some secret "they" are keeping from we lowly peons.  If justice is truly poetic, as sometimes "they" say, maybe things will get worse...but only for "they".

Well, time for the night-cap.  I highly recommend the New Belgium Brewing Co's black ale blend titled "1554".  Even "they" would enjoy a sip or two (but I am not sharing mine with "they").

'Night all!
